The first 2 books managed to be so engrosing that I though this one would be too. It wasn't so. Nontheless this book still gave me the shivers.
Review by book_worm_4_u (Great River Regional Library), October 20, 2010 A disappointing end to a pretty good start. I loved the first book of the series, but the second (and now third) books fell flat for me. Here's a breakdown of the book itself: Likes: Katniss' struggle to find her role in the war is interesting. The mystery aspect also adds a good twist. The love triangle is pretty well done as well, but a little predictable. Dislikes: The plot drags. The ending feels forced/rushed. One major character of the series is simply written off and barely mentioned as an afterthought. My suggestion: Don't buy this book. Borrow it. However, if you really liked 'Catching Fire', I think you'll definitely want to at least give 'Mockingjay' a chance (the two books have a similar feel to them). Just don't be surprised if one of your favorite characters dies, though!
Review by booklover177 (Seattle Public Library), August 29, 2010 This is a can't put down book just like the two that came before it. The plot twists and turns like a roller coaster. But can life truly change in the districts? Katniss discovers that unless she is willing to take drastic action things may never change, they may just be in the hands of a different monster.
Review by kimc (The Library Network), August 25, 2010 lauren101, how do you know? You can't have read the book, since it's coming out on the 24th. I say nobody listen to her, and just wait till the book comes out to read it. And don't give up hope, especially if you're TEAM PEETA! Can't WAIT for the book! EDIT: This was okay, definitely dazzling, but not as spellbinding as the first two books.
Review by Sea_Anemone (Gwinnett County Public Library), August 22, 2010 After the first two books, I was eagerly anticipating the third one, but I found it lacking in action, very slow, and an abrupt ending. I feel it did not live up to it's predecessors.
Review by Wackcheese (Spokane County Library District), June 14, 2012 Now Katniss has to live in District 13, the district that everybody THOUGHT has burned down. District 12, her home, has been burned down. And now Panem is rebelling against the Capitol again. Katniss has to choose between her love interests again. And finally, Katniss decides to be the Mockingjay, the leader of the rebels. But sadly, Peeta, her love, was still in the hands of the Capitol. She rescues him, but now Peeta wants to kill Katniss. Katniss has to deal with love sickness and not fighting to be safe. To be the Mockingjay. Katniss has to deal with her sister, Prim, dying. She has to deal with President Snow's white rose. She has to deal with the beginning of a new era. And to think this all started when she entered the Hunger Games, with her bow and arrow.
Review by rachelrules (Gwinnett County Public Library), April 9, 2012 About the eleventeenth time Katniss wound up in the hospital I was pretty much done with it all. Way to turn your heroine into a sad little pawn. I wanted so desperately for her to rise from the ashes, grow strong from what she had been through. I guess it was far more realistic the way it played out, and if the writing were better, perhaps it could have even been the best approach. The problem was that the writing did not change accordingly with the direction of the story. The sparse description and very simple narration of the protagonist's thoughts went perfectly with the fast moving plot of the 1st book, it faltered slightly with the second, and just collapsed in the third book. The writing could not hold up to the internal struggle going on throughout the story. Neither could it support the more complicated plot. Although I have yet to read a single Harry Potter novel, I always admired the fact that as Rowling's characters and plots grew more complex, so did the writing. This trilogy would have clearly benefited from such an approach, but unfortunately Ms. Collins did not even try to do this. That being said, I still liked it for what it was. Collins still surprised me in several chapters and I was happy with Katniss's final Edward/Jacob choice. All three books will make great movies, provided the acting and the effects are good.
Review by drama_rhiannon (C/W MARS - WMARS), March 6, 2012 THIS BOOK IS AMAZING. not as good as the 1st and 2nd but still awesome. the end left me wanting more. it is the perfect balance of suspense, romance, and action
Review by Olivia :) (Central Rappahannock Regional Library), February 25, 2012 Collin's third book in the HUNGER GAME trilogy is a satisfying end to the story of Katniss, Panem, and the rebellion. I am glad that I took the time to read all three books.
Review by Lezalou (Petersburg Public Library), February 18, 2012 Wow! Mockingjay was a constant page turner and kept me up in the early morning until I finally finished it. I really liked Mockingjay and feel that all of my questions were answered. Also, there was alot of detail in the book; which really brought the story to life. The ending seemed somewhat rushed and there were many sad parts in the book, too. My head was practically spinning as I read through the multiple twist and turns. Over all Mockingjay was a great read, completed the Hunger Games trilogy well and is a book I would recomend. Sincerely, Reality Escaper
Review by Reality Escaper (Central Rappahannock Regional Library), February 4, 2012 Loved it. Suzanne Collin's hand should be legend. It's like looking at an addicting video game except the book is better.
Review by Reviewer734 (The Library Network), December 9, 2011 This book is sad. It made me cry. Although this book is amazing it wasn't the best out of the series but it still is amazing. if You thought this book was good or amazing then you would probably like the book called "Z". This book is about Katniss following through with the revolution.( with many casualties though it is one of the best books I have ever read.

(Barrington Area Library), July 31, 2011 I liked the first 2 books in the series, but Mockingjay was just not as good.
Review by bookreader96 (Gwinnett County Public Library), October 2, 2010 if you loved the first two books in this series you will love this one. with a surprise ending and awesome plot, you will keep reading until the very end!! I loved it!!

(High Plains Library District), September 11, 2010 Katniss is a survivor and now she's also an inspiration to an entire nation. Suzanne Collins wraps up the story that started with The Hunger Games in this action packed novel. Mockingjay will have readers racing to the end to find out what happens to all their favorite characters. The writing is fluid and incredibly vivid. As with the previous two books, this one does not lack for violence and moral dilemmas. This book should spark some great discussions among readers both young and not so young!
Review by YSLibrarianBecky (Barrington Area Library), August 26, 2010 Suzanne Collins had a lot to live up to in Mockingjay, the last book in the Hunger Games trilogy, and she did not disappoint. The war is on and Katniss remains the symbol of the rebellion. What remains a mystery is who are her friends and who are her enemies. And then there's that little problem with Gale and Peeta. I won't spoil anything but I will tell you that Mockingjay is filled with twists and turns until the very end. It's a satisfying end to an incredible series.
Review by openwindows (Suffolk County Public Libraries ), August 25, 2010 A thrilling and compelling conclusion to the entire Hunger Games trilogy!
Review by hoodoogirl (Buffalo and Erie County Public Library), March 9, 2021 [Reviewed by Carol S.] The third and last book in the Hunger Games series. The rebels are fighting against the capitol. Katniss is the "Mockingjay." Her goal is to be the one to kill President Snow. In the end Prim is killed along with many other children, the result of orders given by Coin, the leader of the rebellion. Katniss kills Coin and Snow eventually dies. Katniss is sent back to District 12. Gale goes to live and work in District 2. Katniss and Peeta marry and have two kids.
Review by Reading Program Patron (Logan Library), March 12, 2015 The third book of the Hunger Games trilogy was a let down when compared to it's first or second book. The first half of the book was a drag to read, I personally disliked this part of the book, due to the fact that it was partly repetitive and boring when you remember the first and second books which were amazing. The second half of the book was great but of course the ending was rushed as you have probably heard in many other reviews. I read all three books of the series in 4 days because they were so great but the first half of the third book was a let down. Overall I think the book was good to finish off the trilogy but Suzanne Collins could have ended the last book a lot better.
Review by Shadow_9999 (Anglican Church Grammar School Library - Senior), July 22, 2014 I really enjoyed the Hunger Games series. I could not put down each book... That said, I don't think this book is as good as the first two. The ending didn't seem well paced - then again I don't like it when a series like this ends!
Review by MeganDuffy (Anglican Church Grammar School Library - Senior), January 16, 2014 Wicked awesome finish to the series. Loved the big chase scene at the end!
Review by KJ (High Plains Library District), January 11, 2013 A real breath-catching finale to a thrilling series. Highly Recommend for everyone age 13 and up.
Review by kjgormley (High Plains Library District), January 11, 2013 Not as good as The Hunger Games (01) or Catching Fire (02). Katniss becomes a "soldier" which is good and bad. She lives such a traumatic life that I would expect her to drop dead any second. Her love life with Gale and Peeta continues to strive, but who will she choose?!
Review by Mockingjay_HG (Wyndham City Libraries), August 6, 2012 Collins has outdone herself. The best in the trilogy. :)
Review by mockinjay15983 (Barrington Area Library (Polaris)), July 19, 2012 could not put it down, even now I am still with Kitness very happy to recommend
