Book tastes

Adult and (sometimes) YA fantasy. I’m signed up for Fairyloot so I get their monthly picks. What matters first and foremost is the quality of the story, as I’m not someone who chases a romantasy with paper cut out characters. I enjoy high fantasy (fey are excellent fun but only if they’re like the folklore DnD type and not the Man With Wings Who Broods type), dark fantasy (realistic stakes) and cozy fantasy (Emily Wilde series for example).
I’m currently wading deeply through sources of research for my own novel, which involves celtic folklore and fairy tale creatures (baobhan síth, hags, etc) if you would prefer something of a more academic source instead of fiction. I’m also a dungeon master for two DnD games and don’t yet have the 2024 player’s guide or DM Guide.
I am also a graphic novel artist. My tastes there are quite picky though!

Don't get this!

Contemporary romance, any of those types of romantasies that have no personalities and are most likely fanfic rewrites, anything sexist/misogynistic/racist etc

Other notes

I’m really on the hunt for something I could use as a comp for my own story, which is set in the fey realm (no humans! No humans going to the fey realm and talking about how strange it is! We are already living there!) and it’s nearly impossible to find something remotely recent or relevant to a folklore inspired dark fantasy.
