Book tastes

I'm looking for recent graphic novels, comics and so forth for my son Liam, a budding cartoonist. Liam strongly prefers amusing or fanciful things—sci-fi, fantasy, jokes, etc. So no memoirs of life as a teenager, war stories, etc. He isn't particularly interested in violence. He will read stuff for younger kids, if the art is good.

Don't get this!

Well-known classics.

katemcangus: checked (Dec 6, 2023, 8:33am)
foggidawn: Over the Garden Wall is popular at my library. I also liked Castle Waiting, the Tea Dragon Society, and No One Returns from the Enchanted Forest. Garlic & the Vampire is another fun one. (Dec 4, 2023, 3:49pm)
ejmam: The Flamingo by Guoging is a cool book that does some neat art things. Molly Knox Ostertag has some good graphic novels, like The a witch Boy. (Dec 4, 2023, 3:07am)
EerierIdyllMeme: Taproot (Keezy Young)

I also second Nimona (Nov 30, 2023, 4:32pm)
mlstweet: Anything by Gareth Hinds- he adapts classic texts like The Odyssey, Shakespeare plays, Poe's works to graphic novels (Nov 29, 2023, 9:33pm)
thebookmagpie: Not sure what the age range is but some recs might be Nimona, Misfit City, Joyride, and the manga for Dragonball/Dragonball Z. Also heard good things about One Piece. (Nov 29, 2023, 5:59pm)
DestDest: The Hilo Series by Judd Winick is full of high stakes, wacky humor, and sci-fi goodness. Also, Travis Daventhorpe for the Win by Wes Molebash, Hammer: The Ocean Kingdom by Jey Odin, and The Extincts by Scott Magoon (Nov 28, 2023, 8:19pm)
HuberK: Fantasy: Whalefall by Daniel Kraus (Nov 28, 2023, 11:00am)
