Book tastes
Cozy fantasy is my favorite genre, and I am so pleased that it is gaining popularity right now. I really enjoyed the recent books by both Travis Baldree and Rebecca Thorne and plan to re-read them. I love humorous fantasy and sci fi novels. Terry Pratchett, Anne McCaffrey, Douglas Adams, and Patricia C Wrede are favorite authors. I also enjoyed Becky Chambers novels. Graphic Novels are another genre we love in our household, I share my graphic novels with my elementary school age kids. YA is great, both my kids and myself read YA books. Escape room type books, and RPG books are also enjoyed (as we play a lot of board games and RPGs as a family). I read for escapism and do not want any violence or trauma in my books, even if it isn't explicit. I don't want my books to cause depression or anxiety, I want to escape to a happy fantasy or sci fi world. I don't mind romance, I read a fair bit, especially if it is fantasy themed. Steampunk is another genre I read a fair bit of, but it can be hit or miss as to how much I like it. Bookshops, libraries, tea shops, and bakeries are favorite settings. Magic? Yes please! I like strong female characters. Too much misogyny in stories bothers me.
Don't get this!
Horror, Gothic Novels, Religious Books, Anything Violent or Dark
Other notes
I read a lot. We visit the library at least once a week. I try to keep my collection here on LibraryThing current, but sometimes I miss a book or two. Both kids love Star Wars so Star Wars books will also get read. I share a lot (but not all) of my books with my kids. I don't read much non fiction.
