SantaThingSantaThing Entry #277

Recipient is not the account.

Gift is for: Jacob (12 yo son)

Book tastes

Jacob really likes fantasy and some sci-fi. He is open to branching out from those for the right books. Some books and authors he has liked include: Dune, Brandon Sanderson (the Cosmere), the Dresden Files, The name of the Wind.
He would especially like it if you could find some good non-fiction in the vain of "The disappearing spoon" and "the poisoner's handbook"

Don't get this!

Anything already in my library. Brandon Sanderson (he has read every book he as written already). Anything with Romance as a primary part of the plot

Other notes

You can see a lot of what he likes in the "jacob's room" collection under my account

EerierIdyllMeme: If he likes Dune, he might like Ancillary Justice. It's a bit of a chonk for someone that age, but if he's taken on Dune that might not be a problem. (Nov 30, 2023, 12:03am)
abbytuttle: I hope he enjoys my selections! Thank you to everyone in the comments who helped. I hope you all have a great Christmas. (Nov 28, 2023, 9:27pm)
LibraryPerilous: A Taste for Poison: Eleven Deadly Molecules and the Killers Who Used Them, by Neil Bradbury (Nov 27, 2023, 3:17pm)
saroz: I think Jacob would likely enjoy Susan Cooper's "The Dark is Rising," which is a slightly dark fantasy about a young man of his age that involves some Celtic mythology. It's a five book cycle but most people start with book #2, also called "The Dark is Rising" (#1 is about different characters).

He might also like Ray Bradbury's "Something Wicked This Way Comes" or Neil Gaiman's "Neverwhere." (Nov 26, 2023, 1:29am)
_missnomer_: I looked through the books he’s read, and I think he’d enjoy The Tripods by John Christopher. It was one of my favorite series’ as a teen, along with The mysterious Benedict society.

He seemed to like astronomy, The Last Stargazers by Emily Levesque is nonfiction about her experiences as an astrophysicist, and it’s written in a way that’s understandable but not overly simplified.

I saw he read What If? The sequel, What If 2, has my name in it. (Nov 25, 2023, 1:29pm)
