Book tastes

Alex (my son, 8) and Joey (my daughter, almost 7) are both really into graphic novels and have read all of the following series: Dog Man, Cat Kid Comic Club, Captain Underpants, Calvin & Hobbes, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Big Nate.
For Alex, I'm hoping for a book or graphic novel with a male protagonist around his age that he might enjoy. His interests include science, math, all sports, Star Wars, and Video Games.
For Joey, I'd welcome anything that her brother didn't pick out. Perhaps with a female or even an animal protagonist (bonus points for cats). I got her the babysitter's club little sister books for Christmas, so not those. She's a gal who loves sass, art, cats, art, gymnastics, and art. Oh, and Taylor Swift.

Don't get this!

Any titles in the series listed above.

Other notes

Please feel free to ask me if they've read something! The surprise will be theirs so I don't mind knowing.

saroz: Joey might really like Luke Pearson's "Hilda" series, which centers around a spunky little girl and her deerfox having adventures. The first one is "Hilda and the Troll." Also, Eric Shanower's adaptations of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" and its sequels - Dorothy is a much more active protagonist than in the famous movie, and Skottie Young's art is really energetic and fun. MRullo: For Alex I'd recommend Tim Allman's "Max against Extinction". I translated it into Italian and it was great fun. The book is about nature and saving the planet, with lots of hilarious situations and a male protagonist who is about Alex's age.

For Joey I'd recommend Cerrie Burnell's "Harper and the Scarlet Umbrella", which is a poetic story about a girl whose beloved cat Midnight goes missing. There are cats, music and a sprinkle of mistery. If she loves cats, I also recommend Michael Morpurgo's "Adolphus Tips". The story of a little girl and a cat during WWII told in the form of a diary. Very very beautiful, moving and funny, as well.

Enjoy! (Nov 25, 2023, 5:40pm)
HuberK: (The Wingfeather Saga #1) On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness by Andrew Peterson, an idea.
