Book tastes

For SantaThing this year, please focus on any of the following:

ghosts, modern gothic, atmospheric, scary, thriller/suspense, mystery, speculative fiction, magical realism, sci-fi, fantasy but not space operas, or horror. (Also fair game: anything in my "wishlist" collection here on LibraryThing.) Also, "genre benders" are great. I know I have a big library w/ a lot of eclectic tastes in there, but my job is so reading-heavy, that I've really been trying to find my perfect escapes lately. Thank you!!

But within those categories are so many options! :D

To give you a sense of some of my recent favorite reads that fall into those categories: Annie Bot (omg); The Clinic; The Tainted Cup (!) and anything by Robert Jackson Bennett; Rabbits (Miles); The Chestnut Man; Sanderson's Skyward series; anything by Simone St. James or Silvia Moreno-Garcia; None of this is True; Other Birds; Ghostwritten (2 of the novellas being better than the other 2); The Housemaid (pure escape); The Other Black Girl; How the Light Gets In; The God of the Woods; Space Unicorn Blues (an unexpected surprise in the "space opera" category); anything by Matt Ruff; anything by Blake Crouch

Don't get this!

Please no YA or romance unless specifically included in my wishlist - my taste for those have become pretty limited over the past few years. No westerns or erotica, please.

Other notes

I'm totally cool w/ either something off my Wishlist or something that you know about that I haven't identified. I'm excited about the books on my Wishlist, but I also love surprises!
